Built on a foundation of Privacy-by-Design

The former Information and Privacy Commissioner for the Canadian province of Ontario, Canada, Ann Cavoukian, developed the “Privacy by Design (PbD) concept as an approach to systems engineering. PbD that seeks to ensure protection for the privacy of individuals by integrating considerations of privacy issues from the very beginning of the development of products, services, business practices, and physical infrastructures

PbD advances the view that the future of privacy cannot be assured solely by compliance with regulatory frameworks; rather, privacy assurance must ideally become an organization’s default mode of operation.

PbD was a major factor in the design of EML and it meets or exceeds the Protection of Personal Identifiable Information (PPII), Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Our unique identifiers) are dynamic, anonymous and encrypted in transport. They are associated to a verified address but NEVER to an individual. Plus all location information is stored temporarily in a secure database and is never shared.

EML remains “latent” until a citizen dials Emergency Services, thereby providing verbal or implied consent to receive assistance through sharing their location.
